Commissioners also asked for a timeline that allows them time to digest information; several said they may call a special meeting if the packet does not provide sufficient detail before the scheduled vote.
The jail committee reported it would also schedule tours of the existing jail facilities for commissioners and the public following the consultant's presentation. Commissioners discussed financing options that have been mentioned, including low-interest loans and the possibility of a sales-tax proposal; the committee described a finance subcommittee working with a consultant to examine options.
The county's next formal decision point will be when the Samuels Group presents its recommendation to the full commission. Commissioners emphasized they will need detailed cost and financing information before making a commitment and noted that the cost of waiting is increasing as the problem persists.
No formal vote on a project or financing was taken at the meeting; commissioners said the Samuels Group presentation will form the basis for any future motion or special meeting.
