Snyderville Basin Planning Commission elects chair pro tem, approves minutes and discusses vacancies

At its Jan. 14, 2025 meeting the Snyderville Basin Planning Commission elected a chair pro tem by roll call, approved Dec. 10, 2024 minutes, discussed filling a planning-commission vacancy on the general plan advisory board and scheduled an upcoming vice-chair election and organizational meeting in March.
The Snyderville Basin Planning Commission opened its regular meeting on Jan. 14, 2025, and elected a chair pro tempore, approved minutes from Dec. 10, 2024, and discussed filling commissioner roles on advisory bodies and future officer elections.
Early in the meeting a commissioner nominated Commissioner Carmichael for chair pro tem; a second was recorded and the nomination was put to a roll call. The nomination passed on a roll call vote (4-0); the commission recorded four ayes. The commission also approved the minutes of its Dec. 10, 2024 meeting by a 3-0 vote from the members present that evening (three commissioners were eligible to vote on those minutes because two members who had attended the Dec. 10 meeting were not present).
Staff reported Commissioner Cook had resigned and that one of his volunteer assignments was service on the general plan advisory board, which includes planning-commission members and community members assisting with a general-plan update. Staff asked for a volunteer to fill that advisory-board seat; one commissioner volunteered to serve and staff said the volunteer would begin receiving emails and meeting notices for the general-plan advisory board and outreach events.
Staff also described the commission’s rules for electing officers: the commission holds an annual organizational meeting in March to elect a chair and a vice chair; officers serve one-year terms and may not serve more than two consecutive terms. Because of a recent change in membership, staff said the commission needs to hold a vice-chair election at its next regular meeting in February, then hold the full organizational election in March.
Staff noted the county council had received several applications to fill two recent vacancies on the planning commission and expected interviews and appointments to be completed soon; commissioners were told they could view council materials and applicant packets in the council meeting packet.
The commission closed its meeting after a motion to adjourn was moved, seconded and approved.
