Brimfield trustees accept 2025 preliminary township budget; one trustee abstains

Fiscal staff said the document is an estimated budget that matches departmental project plans reviewed with department heads; any future increases in available revenue would require a subsequent motion to amend appropriations. The fiscal presenter emphasized that the budget sets fund-level totals and that departments must spend within their assigned fund amounts.
Trustees were told some large park projects (notably Maguire Park work) were moved into a specific line pending TIF verification from legal counsel so demolition and certain site-preparation tasks could proceed without delaying smaller start items such as security lighting, garbage cans and dog-station installations.
After discussion, a trustee moved and a second was recorded; the board voted to adopt the budget. Trustee Mike and Trustee Sue voted yes; Trustee Nick abstained. The motion passed.
Staff said the budget as approved is an initial estimate submitted to the county and that adjustments will be made if actual revenues differ from estimates.
