San Patricio supplier moves to Stage 3; Aransas Pass to adopt same restrictions after notification

The Aransas Pass City Council heard an update Monday that the city’s regional supplier, the City of Corpus Christi, has entered Stage 3 water restrictions and the local supplier, San Patricio Municipal Water District, will require Aransas Pass to adopt the same restrictions once it issues formal notice.
City staff member Mary reported that the city purchases treated water from the San Patricio Municipal Water District, which in turn receives water from Corpus Christi. Mary said Corpus Christi announced a move to Stage 3 “effective immediately” and that San Patricio will notify Aransas Pass, at which point the city will issue its own notice and move to Stage 3.
Staff said the city expected the restrictions to remain in place for several months. Sandra, a staff member working on customer outreach, said the city will first post notices on social media and the city website, and will include information in the monthly billing cycle and other mailed communications. Sandra said the stage will limit outdoor watering and that there “might be an enforcement part” to the restrictions.
Councilmember Mary said staff may need to present amendments to the city’s drought management plan at a future meeting if required.
No formal vote was taken; the item was an informational update and a staff planning item.
