Dawn Cronin of TWC's Workforce Development Division said the phase 1, year 2 pilot (12 local workforce boards) began Oct. 1 and costs $2,916,000. Staff recommended distributing those RESEA funds to participating boards. The commission approved the funding distribution.
Cronin also presented an expansion, pilot phase 2 year 1, which adds nine additional boards and will require claimants to attend one, two or three meetings to evaluate the incremental impact of each meeting. Phase 2, year 1 is estimated to cost $3,540,000 and will be funded with carryforward and the grant's evaluation carve‑out. The commission approved that funding distribution as presented.
Commissioners discussed program features, including an AI‑based mock interview tool for jobseekers and links to the Texas Interns Unite initiative. Staff said the pilot will evaluate different meeting dosages and incorporate evidence‑based interventions as required by the RESEA grant.
