Humboldt County commissioners approved awarding geotechnical and certified testing work for three bridges to Certified Testing Services after reviewing multiple quotes.
County engineering staff said they solicited quotes from Alinder Butzke, Terracon and Certified Testing Services; Certified’s bid came in significantly lower than others. The work covers borings and geotechnical testing for three bridge projects that staff identified as part of the county’s five-year bridge program.
“We reached out to Alinder Butzke, who is a contractor we've worked with in the past as well as Terracon…Certified testing services came in significantly cheaper,” said county staff. The board voted to award the contract; commissioners said combining multiple bridges yields discounted rates and that the award does not expire if the county delays construction.
The selected bridges were listed in staff materials as bridges 53, 60 and 61. No dollar amount for the award was read into the record at the meeting. The motion to hire Certified Testing Services passed by voice vote; no roll-call breakdown was recorded in the transcript.
