“We're here to request money for our pool in Livermore. We're facing, like, a $103,000, new filter system,” said Billy Scott, a Livermore resident. Scott told the board the pool is free to use and can draw “a 100 people” on very hot days. He described ongoing local fundraising including silent auctions and a long-running can bin in town.
County officials said the pool has historically received a modest annual contribution and encouraged the group to apply for the county’s community betterment grant next year. “We are in the process of putting our budget together and it's not gonna be a good year, I'll be honest with you,” said an unidentified county official, noting the budget outlook is tight. The county suggested continuing fundraising and applying for grants; officials also urged residents to contact state legislators about property tax changes that affect county revenue.
Speakers raised the pool building's age and broader maintenance needs; Scott said the pool structure was built in the 1970s and has undergone periodic painting and repairs. County staff said they would consider the request during upcoming budget work but did not commit any new funds at the meeting.
The discussion ended with county officials thanking the visitors and promising to reexamine the county budget and the existing grant schedule; no formal county appropriation was made or voted on during the session.
