Commission extends North Central Dade Municipal Advisory Committee; residents say they need facts before considering incorporation

The Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners voted Jan. 22 to extend the North Central Dade Municipal Advisory Committee, a citizen-driven panel studying possible incorporation or other local governance options for the area commonly referred to as North Central Dade.
Commissioner Bastien sponsored the measure and told the board residents asked for up-to-date, comparative information about municipal services and tax impacts. The vote passed 11–1 after commissioners and residents said the MAC needs additional time to gather facts, tax and service comparisons, and to build local engagement.
“...they want the study, we want the data, and we want the facts,” said Kenneth Kilpatrick, president of the Brownsville Civic Neighborhood Association, who testified during public comment on behalf of a coalition of neighborhood associations that support the MAC extension.
