LCPS and City of Las Cruces launch 'Thrive with Cariño' partnership to recognize student kindness

Las Cruces Public Schools announced a partnership with the City of Las Cruces on Jan. 21 to expand the district’s Thrive initiative with the city’s Cariño campaign, a joint effort the board and superintendent described as a program to recognize students who model kindness and community values.
Superintendent Ruiz asked the board to move the item earlier on the agenda because city officials were present. Communications director Kelly Jamieson and community outreach liaison Bridget Gadibay described the program. They said the district and the city kicked off joint recognition at the city council earlier the same day and will provide schools with materials, certificates and a T-shirt for honored students. The program will begin visits to schools in February on a feeder-pattern schedule and those students will be recognized both by their school and by city staff.
Mayor Ken (Eric) Enriquez addressed the board in support of the partnership and said the city will send staff and councilors to celebrate students in classrooms. Board members welcomed the collaboration; staff said the first visits will prioritize feeder patterns and that the city will coordinate with principals and families.
