Bannock County seeks commissioners' signatures to list sheriff app in Apple App Store

Bannock County IT Director Adam McKinney told commissioners the county has struggled for months to satisfy Apple’s documentation requirements for listing a sheriff's department app in the Apple App Store. The board authorized a written designation allowing Apple to treat an identified developer as the county's representative and amended the motion so all commissioners’ signatures would appear on the authorization.
McKinney described multiple rejected document types. "They wouldn't accept it because it was handwritten," he said, referring to early charter documentation the clerk located; he said an IRS EIN letter also was rejected. McKinney said the county proposed accepting Apple's terms of service and providing a letter of authorization so the app can be listed. The app is intended to provide county information, emergency alerts, a jail roster and sex-offender listings, he said.
The board voted to authorize the letter and to require that all commissioners sign it rather than have only the chairman's signature. Commissioners instructed county staff to obtain the necessary signatures and submit the letter to Apple so the county’s sheriff-branded app can be listed in the App Store.
