Troy school board elects Packard president, Reddick vice president; approves committee slate

The Troy City School District Board of Education elected Mrs. Packard as board president and Ben Reddick as vice president during its organizational meeting on Jan. 13, 2025. The board also approved the calendar of regular meetings for 2025 and a slate of committee and external-liaison appointments.

The board took nominations for president and vice president separately. Packard was nominated for president and received affirmative votes from board members present. Ben Reddick was nominated for vice president and likewise received affirmative votes. The board then moved to adopt the 2025 meeting dates as shown in exhibit A and approved committee assignments and representatives to outside bodies, including the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) liaison and Upper Valley representatives.

Board members discussed representation on city and recreation boards and the Park Board. Members noted that current representatives Tom Dunn and Eric Herman have expiring terms (Dunn in 2026; Herman at the end of 2025) and urged the board to consider potential candidates—board members or community members—for future appointments. The board agreed to ask current representatives to provide at least annual updates to the board or written reports if they cannot attend in person.

Several members volunteered for alternate roles: a reminder was given that the OSBA liaison attends OSBA meetings, including OSBA executive sessions. Upper Valley representation was discussed; at least one incumbent expressed interest in continuing for another three-year term.

The motion to accept the slate of committee positions and meeting dates was moved and seconded and approved by the members present.
