City council approves consent zoning items; Dawn’s Harvest awarded $20,000 grant

The San Antonio City Council on Thursday approved a slate of consent zoning items, continued several agenda items to February, and recognized a local small business that received a city sustainability grant.

Mayor Pro Tem called roll and confirmed a quorum at about 2:03 p.m. The council voted to continue agenda items 34, 35 and 36 to February 6 and item 1 to February 20. The motions to continue were moved and seconded and the council carried the continuances without additional debate.

On the consent agenda, the council approved zoning items 2–19, 21–26, 29, 32, 37 and 38 (as listed on the meeting agenda). Several members of the public had signed up to speak on consent items. Jack M. Finger spoke opposing multiple proposed alcohol variances and higher-density conversions he said were near schools or single-family neighborhoods. Sarah Olivares, a District 2 resident and the owner of Dawn’s Harvest, spoke in support of item 11, thanking council and city staff for their help.

During council remarks, a council member highlighted item 11, noting Dawn’s Harvest was awarded a $20,000 grant from the Office of Sustainability’s Climate Ready Community Action Fund to build an urban farm and farm stand in the Denver Heights neighborhood to increase access to fresh produce.

With no further discussion, the council voted to approve the consent agenda. The meeting then moved to individually considered items.
