MSAD 51 facilities staff review summer projects: modulars replaced, cameras added, turf and new construction advanced

Facilities staff presented the district’s summer work to the MSAD 51 Board on Oct. 9, describing projects across elementary, middle and high school campuses and progress on the one‑campus construction schedule.
The summary supplied to trustees said the work took roughly six to seven weeks and included extensive tile replacement and repainting at Mabel I. Wilson School and Greeley High School, targeted mold remediation and expanded security camera coverage at multiple buildings. At the middle school, the district removed three aging modular units that were no longer serviceable and installed four new modulars (two‑year lease planned), representing eight classrooms; technology, intercom and sprinkling work accompanied those site changes.
Facilities staff said the new modulars were needed for current enrollment and that the district plans a two‑year lease; once the new primary school opens the lease will expire and modulars will be removed. Staff reported network core and switch replacements to address failing equipment and described inventory and proper disposal of electronic waste.
Project contractors named in the presentation included Story Brothers (site and subcontractor work), RW Gougins (electrical), Box Modular (modular supplier), GeoSurfaces (turf installation) and others.
Superintendent and facilities staff also briefed trustees on work at the Institute building (trim and repainting) and the bell tower, which contains lead paint and will require abatement during a future break in the school calendar. The district said the bell still rings and that the abatement will be scheduled when school activity allows.
Board members asked about remaining camera and exterior intercom work; staff said most cameras were installed and exterior intercom/PA work remains in progress. Trustees thanked the staff and contractors for completing a broad set of needed maintenance and security upgrades ahead of the school year.
No board action was taken at the presentation itself; the facilities update was part of the regular agenda and the board moved later in the meeting to other action items (see separate article for votes taken during the session).
