Council vacates unused public-utility easements on West Side property

The Evansville Common Council on Jan. 27 adopted Ordinance G 20 25-01 to vacate portions of public-utility easements on the West Side of Evansville in Block 4 of Alberta Place Number 2 (common addresses 100 S and 114 S Teacupel Ave).
Jim Morley Jr., project engineer, explained the easements were remnants of a long-ago alley and that the 10-foot public-utility easement runs through what is now a fenced storage yard for Jerry David Enterprises. "Originally, many, many moons ago, there were, there was an alley there. That alley was vacated a long time ago and when the alley was vacated, they reserved, 10 foot public utility easement... but there are no utilities in this section," Morley said, adding that the utilities had signed off on vacation of the easement.
Council discussion was brief; Councilman Brinkmeyer said he had not heard any negative responses and described the property owners as "great people on the West Side" who take care of their properties. With no public comment, the council conducted a roll-call vote: 9 ayes, 0 nays. Ordinance G 20 25-01 was declared adopted.
The ordinance vacates portions of the 210-foot public-utility easement identified in meeting exhibits; no easement relocation or replacement was discussed at the meeting. The council did not note any ongoing utility uses within the vacated area.
