District previews countywide CTE millage, STEAM Center opening and new boys varsity volleyball

Superintendent Kowalski briefed the board on a countywide career and technical education (CTE) millage that would fund industry-connected experiences such as health sciences, cyber security, aviation and robotics and support pre-K through 12 experiential learning. Kowalski said 86% of CTE students go on to college and that demand for CTE courses has grown about 70% in nearly four years; she urged continued community engagement and listed several upcoming informational sessions coordinated with the intermediate school district (ISD).
Kowalski also announced a Steam Center grand opening scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 27, from noon to 4 p.m., with guided tours and activities. She said the district and its partners will host the event and encouraged community attendance.
On athletics, district staff and students told the board the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) has allowed boys volleyball to become a varsity sport and the district has added boys volleyball as a self-funded varsity program for spring 2026. The superintendent and athletics staff thanked community education and others who supported the transition.
Administrators said they will continue outreach about the CTE millage through community meetings and district communications.
