Moffat County awards bids for mulcher head and road striping

Moffat County commissioners on Aug. 12 approved two road-department procurement actions: awarding a mulcher-head bid to Wagner Caterpillar of Hayden for $42,064.05 and accepting a single bid from Stripe A Lot (Montrose) for county road striping at $79,847.
Road and Bridge Director Dan Miller said the department sought multiple bids for a mulcher head to fit the county’s track skid steer. Although Wear Parts & Equipment of Aurora submitted the lowest bid ($40,799), that unit had a 60-inch drum incompatible with the county’s 80-inch skid steer. Wagner Caterpillar’s 72-inch drum on an 84-inch machine matched the county’s equipment and was recommended despite being $1,500 higher than the next compatible bid.
On striping, Miller said the county budgeted $100,000 for striping and advertised for 40 miles; Stripe A Lot was the sole bidder at $79,847. Commissioners discussed previous reductions to striping coverage and accepted staff’s recommendation to award the contract and continue rotating non-hazard routes year to year to manage costs.
Both motions were made, seconded and approved by voice vote; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the transcript.
