Cemetery Trust Fund shows increased reserves; staff plans fence repairs at Fort Drum Cemetery

Nelson said the operating expenses on a line-item basis decreased, but total non-operating reserves increased significantly to cover contingency and future needs: the package shows a cash balance carried forward of $69,800, reserved contingencies of $34,900 and reserves for future of $244,000. Nelson said the department plans to purchase materials to repair fencing at Fort Drum Cemetery and will request assistance from the Sheriff's Department for labor to keep costs low.
Budget staff told commissioners the small-county surtax funding previously used to supplement cemetery operations will remain in the general fund rather than being budgeted in the cemetery fund this year because the cemetery now has sufficient revenues and reserves.
No formal action was taken; commissioners complimented cemetery staff for recent improvements.
