The Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) presented a minor rule change to Tennessee Promise requiring community service. The update allows students to "bank" community-service hours completed during the summer or other times and apply those hours to semester requirements rather than requiring community service be completed during the specific semester.
Lou Hanneman of TSAC said the change does not reduce the total number of required service hours; it only provides flexibility for students who complete service during summer or other times and wish to carry those hours forward. Committee members supported the change and the package received a positive recommendation in both chambers.
