TDEC updates solid-waste rules and fee schedule for underground storage-tank program; committee approves

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) presented updates to its solid-waste regulations that clarify current practices and adjust fee scheduling and permit timelines for the division that oversees underground storage tanks and related solid-waste programs.
Legislative Director Ali Williamson and Jeremy Hooper of TDEC said the update modernizes rules to reflect current technologies and harmonizes the fee schedule and regulatory timelines with Division of Solid Waste Management practice. Williamson told the committee the revision does not increase fees or extend permit review periods but clarifies and aligns the division's existing processes. She also noted an agreed change to the definition of "isolation room waste" requested by the Department of Health to reduce unnecessary costs for health-care providers.
Committee members had no substantive questions. The committee advanced the rule with a positive recommendation in both chambers.
