Following a mayoral request, the Tree Board discussed potential wildflower planting locations and maintenance requirements on June 4. Members suggested sites including the roundabout at Stribling and Pearson, retention basins along major east–west rights of way, and under the bulk power‑line corridors where mowing frequency is already lower.
Board members emphasized operational needs: plantings require signage and coordination with mowing contractors so wildflower areas are not mowed or sprayed during establishment. One member noted DOT examples where signs and mower training were used to preserve roadside wildflower strips.
Members recommended staff discuss specific site feasibility with Florida Power & Light for areas near power lines and with village maintenance crews for mowing schedules. They also suggested planting seeds in November and considering seed mixes (e.g., coreopsis and other South Florida‑appropriate species), and to consult UF/Extension or master gardeners for seed sources and best practices.
Will said he would run candidate locations by city staff to identify a smaller set of feasible demonstration sites the village could set aside and maintain with reduced mowing frequency.
