North Kingstown High School’s RISE and SAIL students and peers honored for inclusion work

The School Committee on June 3 recognized North Kingstown High School RISE and SAIL students, peer partners and teachers for their inclusion work across the district.
Students and teachers described a year of activities — the Skipper Café (a student‑run café that teaches business and social skills), Unified Spirit Week with in‑school unified basketball and volleyball games, a unified polar plunge, and districtwide “We All Belong” presentations to elementary and middle schools. They also showed a short film titled “Busting Our Myths,” created in partnership with Able Opportunities, in which 16 students recorded brief videos breaking down misconceptions about disability.
Teachers highlighted classroom skills practiced through the program and the expanded visibility of inclusive programming at school events; the presentation drew praise from committee members, who asked that the film be posted on the district website so it can reach more families.
What’s next: Committee presented certificates to students and thanked staff for coordinating the year’s activities.
