Parks department details multi-year community-center pool restorations and Cody Park priorities

Parks and Recreation staff presented a detailed multi-year plan for improvements to the community center and parks, including phased restorations to the indoor pool, replacements for aging fitness equipment, and longer-term priorities for Cody Park amenities.

Parks Director Steve Grant and Deputy Director Brian Bailey described a two-phase indoor pool restoration: an electrical and masonry-focused first phase (current year) and pump-room and mechanical work scheduled for later (phase two). The pool-area painting and ceiling work (last painted in 1988) and replacements of pool furnishings, chair lifts and pool-access stairs were discussed. Parks staff also described a multi-year equipment-replacement plan for the fitness area and replacements for banquet chairs, tables and the building’s walk-behind floor scrubber. Parks staff signaled that the gym floor and indoor track are unscheduled but on staff’s radar.

Cody Park items on the CIP include a fence project, lighting for an existing basketball court (a commonly requested item from residents), and smaller amenity improvements. Staff said the basketball-court lighting project was scheduled later in the five-year plan (2028 in the current schedule) but that commissioners could reprioritize projects during the budget session if the council chose to accelerate funding. The department also discussed pickleball shade structures that are in place and restroom improvement projects.

No commission votes were taken; staff asked commissioners to review priorities and consider schedule changes during the formal budget sessions.
