The Town Board on Feb. 11 approved a standard interconnection agreement to allow utility upgrades needed for the Cooking Ham community solar project and noted the town will apply $275,000 in New York State Clean Energy Communities grant funds to support the grid work.
Supervisor Robert McKean said the town had received $275,000 from the state Clean Energy Communities program as grant dollars tied to high‑impact actions; the board approved a ministerial motion to authorize the town supervisor to sign the interconnection contract with the utility. The contract — the standard form the utility uses for interconnection of distributed generation or energy storage systems of 5 megawatts or less — was described as non-negotiable.
McKean said the grant funds will be applied to the community solar project’s grid upgrades so the town can expand community solar access for residents and small businesses. The board approved proceeding with the contract by voice vote.
