Council approves permit to remove two heritage trees for CR 175 public improvement plan

The Leander City Council unanimously approved a tree removal permit (TRP‑24‑0034) on Feb. 6 that allows removal of two designated heritage trees associated with the White Wild Springs subdivision and the County Road 175 public improvement construction plan (case PICP‑23‑0052).
Executive Director of Development Services Griffin said the two trees are located in the roadway alignment where staff and the applicant worked to save as many trees as possible, but engineering constraints made preservation in that specific road section infeasible. She told council the Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval at its Jan. 23 meeting.
A council member acknowledged a general preference against removing heritage trees but said that in this location removal was “kind of necessary.” The council then voted unanimously to approve the permit.
