The Leander City Council on Feb. 6 approved a comprehensive plan amendment (CPA‑24‑0015) and a zoning change (Z‑24‑0147) for the Oak Grove Estates project, converting roughly 20.536 acres from employment center to neighborhood residential and rezoning the parcel from interim SFR‑1B (single family rural) to SFE‑2A (single family estate).
Josh Becker, identified as the applicant, told council the request would support 80‑foot‑wide lots bordering County Road 175 and emphasized preserving existing mature trees. Executive Director of Development Services Griffin said the request had the council’s prior discussion in July 2024 and that Planning & Zoning recommended approval on Jan. 9. Griffin noted the zoning supports “80‑foot wide lots which is, in compliance with the water resolution.”
Council discussion acknowledged the change is not the council’s routine approach to converting commercial land but said the parcel’s context with nearby schools and existing site features informed the decision. The council unanimously approved the comprehensive plan amendment and the rezoning.
