Leander staff report progress on Bridal Way, Baghdad/Collaborative Way signals and senior center construction

City staff updated the Leander City Council on Feb. 6 about three capital improvement projects: the Bridal Way/East Woodview Drive roadway work, the Baghdad/Collaborative Way intersection improvements, and the new senior center.
The Bridal Way and East Woodview Drive project is nearing its final paving and striping stages. CIP program manager (last name Bettis) said crews have reached “approximately 85% on the irrigation,” have adjusted the street cross‑section to add bike lanes and multiuse sidewalks, and are awaiting warmer, dry weather for the final hot‑mix asphalt overlay. Bettis said the contractor is “inches away from getting a final topping of that road” and staff expects the roads to be topped and striped before spring break if weather permits.
On Baghdad Road and Collaborative Way, CIP project manager (last name Alabastero) reported workers have installed poles and mast arms for the new signals, began geogrid and road base backfilling on the east side, and passed a power inspection; Public Electric Co. (PEC) is scheduling power and staff is tracking an active signal for late February or the first week of March.
Construction at the new senior center is visible above ground, Alabastero said. The east parking lot and structural steel are complete, roof decking and exterior sheathing are in place, and interior mechanical, electrical and plumbing work is underway. Interior framing and ductwork are progressing; staff said they are still targeting a spring completion.
Council members asked about pedestrian and bicycle accommodations on Bridal Way, and staff confirmed the shared-use zones are currently 8 feet wide where shown in the plan. No formal action was requested or taken; these were informational staff reports.
