The Garden Grove City Council presented a certificate of recognition to Garden Grove Unified School District officials and Superintendent Dr. Gabriela Mafi for recent academic recognitions and awards.
Mayor and council members acknowledged the district’s results on the 2024 California School Dashboard, multiple Honor Roll and U.S. News rankings for elementary, intermediate and high schools, National Merit semifinalists, and other honors cited by the mayor’s remarks. Council members praised student scholarship totals and cited a nearly $12 million state grant through the California Community Schools Partnership Program that the district said will fund eight community schools over five years.
Superintendent Dr. Gabriela Mafi and the GGUSD Board of Education accepted the recognition. Dr. Mafi and Board President Philip Nguyen (referred to in remarks as the board president) thanked the city, educators and community partners and noted the awards reflect district academic performance and partnerships.
Ending Councilmembers and the mayor congratulated the district in ceremonial remarks; this was a recognition and no formal council action was required.
