Superintendent Susan Johnson outlined the district’s timeline and steps to support a planned move from five elementary buildings to four schools for the 2025–26 school year, including a district transition team, staff and family engagement and site visits for students.
Johnson said a district transition team of 13 stakeholders — including parents who previously participated in redistricting conversations — had been formed and would meet Jan. 21 at 3:45 p.m. at the board office to identify needs for a smooth transition. The timeline document in the board packet divides tasks among staff, families, students and facilities and lists dates for communications and professional development.
Johnson said principals are reviewing student rosters, the number of grade-level sections required and current vacancies so staffing decisions can be made with continuity. She said the district plans activities such as school tours and shared staff events to ease transitions and noted the need for professional development for staff who have less experience with higher numbers of special needs students.
Board members asked whether direct meetings were scheduled with Eugene Field staff; Johnson said she would meet individually with Eugene Field staff, counselors and building leaders and that a meeting was planned shortly after the holidays. The board noted the consolidation process will require ongoing communication and monitoring of staff and family concerns. No formal vote was taken; the timeline was informational and will be updated as the district meets with stakeholders.
