County manager to terminate Hardee County local state of emergency; termination effective end of business the following day

Hardee County’s manager informed the board that, after reviewing conditions and consulting emergency management, the county will terminate its local state of emergency at close of business the day after the Jan. 16 meeting; no board action was required.
County Manager Terry Ashley told the board Jan. 16 that Hardee County will end its local state of emergency at close of business the day following the meeting. Ashley said the state of emergency had been extended earlier to maintain county protections and that, after review with the emergency manager and department directors, the county no longer needs the local declaration.
Ashley said the state of Florida’s declaration remains in effect but that county staff recommend terminating the local declaration; the manager said he was informing the board before taking the action authorized at a prior extension.
Why this matters: a local state of emergency gives the county certain administrative flexibilities; terminating it restores normal procurement and administrative rules unless a new emergency is declared.
