FDOT grant to resurface MLK Jr. Boulevard approved; limits adjusted to Bay Street–Sally Place

Assistant County Manager Christopher Sempron told the board FDOT recently contacted local agencies to rebalance near‑term resurfacing projects in District 1. As a result the county revised project limits and costs. The resurfacing limits were adjusted to Bay Street to Sally Place; the latest FDOT supplemental agreement sets the project budget at $2,627,946.
Sempron said the county will begin design in fiscal year 2025, with construction expected in a near term year (design and construction timing are contingent on FDOT scheduling and project development). The county has also applied for other sidewalk and safety funding (federal Transportation Alternatives/TA and state programs) and said the resurfacing budget could accommodate safety improvements such as curb and gutter or sidewalks depending on funding outcomes.
Why this matters: MLK is a high‑use corridor in the county; the board and staff discussed the option of adding sidewalks or other pedestrian safety measures should supplemental funding become available.
Vote: the board approved the FDOT state funded grant agreement for resurfacing MLK Jr. Boulevard (Bay Street to Sally Place) in the amount of $2,627,946. Approval was unanimous.
