Prince George's County Council adopts consent agenda and authorizes legislative priorities; backs several state bills

Chair Jay Ivy presided over the Prince George's County Council's Jan. 14 business meeting, where the council approved a consent agenda, referred a county bill to committee and authorized multiple signatures on letters transmitting the county's 2025 state legislative priorities. All recorded votes were 8-0.
The consent agenda, approved on a motion by Council Member Harrison and seconded by Council Member Olson, included approval of council minutes dated Dec. 3, 2024; Dec. 10, 2024; and Jan. 7, 2025, and the first reading of CB-1-2025, a bill concerning a 2025–2026 compensation review commission. The first reading of CB-1-2025 was presented by Council Member Ivey and referred to the Committee of the Whole for further consideration.
During the meeting the council voted to accept an additions packet and authorized the chair to sign a proposed joint letter transmitting the county's legislative priorities for the 2025 Maryland General Assembly session. The chair's signature authorization was moved by Council Member Olson and seconded by Council Member Harrison; the motion carried 8-0.
County staff member Mister Cooper delivered a Committee of the Whole report noting the council voted to support several state measures on the council's joint priorities list. The report recorded council support for measures identified in the transcript as PG 41225 (authority for counties to establish a subclass and set a special rate for vacant and abandoned property) and PG 30825 (Prince George's County speed monitoring systems on Maryland Route 5).
