Residents urge board to complete required training under Act 55 and endorse coach candidate

Two public commenters addressed the board during the public-comment period.
Crystal Mikolaskey, who identified herself as speaking for herself and her daughter, asked the board and athletic director to consider Randy Cucorlo for the girls varsity head-coaching role after the board accepted a resignation and the vacancy was announced: “I speak for myself, for my daughter, and probably most, if not all of the current players and parents, to endorse…Randy Cucorlo into consideration to fill that girls varsity coach position,” she said.
Nancy Hixson Burrow spoke about board-member training requirements and urged board members to complete required training. She referenced Act 55, section 328 of the Public School Code as amended by Act 18, and noted that first-time board members must take basic training within their first 12 months and that other specified trainings (including trauma-informed approaches, fiscal management and responsibilities) apply. She said the training must be taken in the first 12 months and said some members may be in their 13th month without completing required trainings. Burrow warned that, while removal for noncompliance is rare, the statute provides mechanisms for removal if requirements are not met and urged members to pursue the coursework.
Both comments were made during the meeting’s public-comment period and no board action resulted immediately from the remarks.
