Lake Oswego board approves changes to student transfer and tuition rules; elementary nonresident transfers halted

The Lake Oswego School District 7J Board of Education voted to approve the administration's student transfer and tuition guidelines for the 2025-26 school year, changing how the district accepts incoming nonresident students at the elementary level and raising tuition for continuing nonresident tuition students.

Mr. Bailey, presenting with Dr. Zaidj, said the administration recommends returning to the district's prior practice from six years ago: "we no longer accept any new interdistrict transfer or tuition applications at the elementary level," though current transfer and tuition students will be honored on a continuation basis.

The administration recommended that approvals for Lake Oswego residents requesting a different school (intradistrict transfers) remain based on space availability and class-size limits and that secondary (middle and high school) transfers remain open under the existing window. The administration also recommended that the district deny requests to transfer out to other districts.

The board-approved tuition rate for 2025-26 increases from $10,500 per year to $11,500 per year per student for continuing nonresident tuition students; the administration also noted application deadlines and windows for secondary transfers (Jan. 22 to May 2).
