TWC approves evaluation of effectiveness of child‑care program for FY2023–24 for submission to Legislature

The Texas Workforce Commission voted Jan. 9 to approve the evaluation of the commission’s child‑care program for fiscal years 2023–24 for submission to the Texas Legislature.
Allison Wilson of TWC’s Child Care and Early Learning Division presented the evaluation, which the agency said is required by the Texas Labor Code and is due to the Legislature by Jan. 15 in odd‑numbered years. Wilson summarized the report’s contents, saying it includes outcomes for parents who receive subsidized child care, reach and impact metrics for the Texas Rising Star quality program, and interagency collaboration efforts. She also said TWC makes much of the underlying data available on its Child Care by the Numbers website and continues data enhancements.
A motion to approve the evaluation for submission as recommended by staff was made and seconded on the record and carried unanimously. The commission authorized staff to make non‑substantive edits before sending the report to the Legislature.
Ending: Staff will finalize any non‑substantive edits and submit the evaluation to the Legislature by the Jan. 15 statutory window for odd‑numbered years.
