An organizer of the Coffeyville Summer Celebration addressed the commission during public comment to preview the July 12 event at Walter Johnson Park and to thank sponsors and city staff for support.
Why it matters: The annual event draws vendors, community groups and visitors to town; details on crowd size, safety planning and partnerships help the city anticipate park use, security and logistics.
Public comment details: Gail Smith (1451 County Road 4500) told the commission the 2025 event will include more than 88 vendors—with over 70 new vendors listed—bands, a car show, 5K run, kiddie car show and water slides. She said a number of sponsors have committed (Bartlett Co-op with a $4,000 donation among others) and that neighboring towns and county partners have pledged support. Smith said the event benefits downtown businesses and attracts out-of-town visitors; organizers will ID attendees and create roped/fenced areas as needed for vendors and activities. She also said the event will include a fireworks show (sponsored contributions and donated fireworks), Power Wheels attractions and food vendors. Smith said she would return with a post-event report.
Commission response: Commissioners thanked the organizers and noted they appreciated the volunteer effort and reported plans for security and staging.
Provenance: Public comment occurred during the citizens’ comment portion of the meeting and the speaker provided contact and logistics information for the event.
