Commission approves sandblasting and repainting contract for Coffeyville pool

The Coffeyville City Commission on Sept. 23 approved a contract to sandblast and repaint the municipal pool complex to support continued operation.
Public-works staff said bids opened Sept. 4 and four bidders responded; one bid was rejected for not providing a bid bond. Staff recommended awarding the work to the low responsive bidder that provided a bond, Morgan Painting. The scope includes sandblasting loose material from the pool, work on the slide pit and wet well inside the pump house, and repainting to specifications used in the last pool overhaul (2016 specifications were cited).
Commissioners asked whether the contractor had local experience on pools and whether the same grade of paint and specifications would be used; staff said the specs match the prior job in 2016 and that one low bid appeared unusually low but staff believed the recommended bidder met the bid requirements. Commissioner questions about contractor references and local experience were noted; staff said they would confirm references and proceed with the recommendation.
Mayor Maples moved to approve Resolution R-25-101 and a second was recorded; the motion passed with recorded ayes from Mayor Maples, Commissioner Faulkner, Vice Mayor Van Oster and Commissioner Hendricks.
