The City of Coffeyville will switch residential trash collection from Republic Services to Waste Connections beginning Friday, April 4, city staff said at the March 25 commission meeting. City officials urged residents to follow a short schedule and service rules during the transition.
City Manager Ben Brubaker said Republic Services will continue regular pickup through Monday, March 31, and Waste Connections will begin full service on Friday, April 4. Melissa Carr, city clerk, told residents all poly carts for city customers have been delivered and asked people who did not receive the correct number of carts to call the clerk’s office.
Carr said Waste Connections will start routes at about 5 a.m., so carts should be at the curb by 5 a.m. or out Thursday evening. Republic will not pick up trash placed in Waste Connections’ carts; residents should continue to use their Republic cart through March 31. Waste Connections will use yellow-lidded carts to identify at-door service customers; anyone who receives at-door service and does not have the yellow-lid cart should contact the clerk’s office so the route can be updated.
The city will split the town into two bulk-pickup sections divided at Beach and Eleventh Street. The Northwest section will have its first bulk pickup on Friday, April 4; the Southeast section will be served on Friday, April 18. Residents needing bulk pickup must call or email Waste Connections by 4 p.m. on the Thursday before their scheduled pickup to request service. The clerk said the city is posting schedules and contact information on the municipal website and has run radio notices and social posts about the change.
Brubaker and Carr said Waste Connections is delivering missed carts when staff provides daily lists. The city will run follow-up public notices and will provide support for customers who need help confirming at-door service or reporting missing carts.
Residents with questions are directed to the city website and the clerk’s office for help arranging pickups and for contact details for Waste Connections.
