At the opening of Tuesday’s meeting, Council member Debuti reported on a recent homeless‑outreach event and summary figures the city is tracking for homelessness.
Debuti said the outreach team screened a film titled Beyond Bridal and a local production called In Their Shoes at Zoe’s, and that more than 200 people attended a panel discussion that included the mayor. Debuti said the film explores Housing First approaches and examples from large cities.
Debuti reported the city estimates there are “over 400 people who are homeless in our community, probably more,” and said about 161 people are counted as chronically homeless. She thanked city staff and event organizers for their work.
Mayor Gates and other councilors offered brief praise for staff and the university leadership referenced in later remarks. No policy action or motions were taken during the verbal report; the item was a council member report to the body.
