Sierra Vista fundraisers: Vinnys Pizza gives proceeds to Special Olympics Aug. 25; Bearcat Pull set for Oct. 26

Trish, a local Special Olympics coordinator on KWCD's First Watch, said Vinny's Pizza will contribute a portion of sales to Special Olympics on Monday, Aug. 25, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The event will include a barrel jar for cash or check tips and QR codes on tables for electronic donations; law enforcement officials, the mayor and Special Olympics athletes are scheduled to be present. "Monday, August 25, from 11 to 8. Please come out to Vinny's on the frontage road and, help support Special Olympics," she said.
Trish also described the Bearcat Pull, an annual event in which teams pull a roughly 17,000-pound armored vehicle for 25 feet and are timed. Registration opens Sept. 1 and the event is scheduled for Oct. 26, the Sunday before Halloween. Trish emphasized the event is open to the public, not just law enforcement, and that all registration fees and T-shirt sales go to Special Olympics and the local delegation, the Sierra Vista Roadrunners.
She said the local agency raised more than $22,000 in 2024 through multiple activities and that Cochise-area efforts led the state-level Guardian Initiative earlier this year, raising $6,500 between February and June to win a decorative resin torch for the agency.
Organizers said proceeds help local athletes travel to state and national events; the Sierra Vista Roadrunners currently have access to local programs such as bowling, bocce and basketball but rely on fundraising to participate in wider competitions.
No law-enforcement staffing details or budgets for the events were provided on the radio program, and the announcements focused on dates, registration windows and how the public can donate.
