Commission recommends encouraging new ultra-water-efficiency standards in code revision

The Ivins Planning Commission voted unanimously July 15 to recommend a code revision adding a new section to the city's water conservation/waste prevention ordinance that references the water district's new Ultra Water Efficiency Development Standards.
Rob Gillette, speaking for the district, told the commission the standards are intended to encourage greater conservation than current city requirements. "This enables them to encourage, even more conservation than what we've already put in place with our code," Gillette said. He told commissioners the city would not require developments to adopt the district's standards but would include a new Part 8 in the water waste prevention ordinance encouraging their use.
Gillette and planning staff noted the city is not offering additional city incentives if developers follow the district standard; however, the district's program itself may include financial incentives to developers. Commissioners asked clarifying questions but offered little debate before moving to recommend approval and forward the revision to the city council.
