Committee backs creation of ‘legal assistant to council’ classification; pay grade set at 27

George said the new class specification is intended to reflect the office’s needs and that the position would be “in place of the policy director, which is at a pay grade 30.” She stated there are 32 positions in council, three of which were vacant at the time of the meeting.
Mike Migliore, identified in the transcript as counsel to council, told members the job description reflected prior discussion and endorsed the measure. Councilman Hollins said he “wholeheartedly support[s]” the position and praised Migliore’s long service. Councilman Street said he would not support the proposal, citing a past vote to eliminate a comparable position that he regretted; Street said his vote would be a conscientious refusal. Several other members expressed support.
Committee members asked about telecommuting. Councilwoman George and Mike Migliore explained that requests for telework would follow counsel policy and existing work-from-home procedures; Migliore said new hires can request telecommuting and requests are handled in the same way as other such requests.
