Public Works Director Christopher Tressler told supervisors the work represents road maintenance the county has conducted for many years but which needed a formal IGA because portions of the county‑maintained roads traverse Hopi land. He said the IGA covers specific county routes (including portions of roads numbered 6720 and 6730, Buffalo Ranch Road and an area around Pollock Ranch Road) and formalizes the collaboration with the Hopi Tribal Transportation Committee.
Supervisor Fowler praised county staff and the transportation department for negotiating terms and resolving sovereignty and access concerns, and supervisors said the arrangement helps ensure communities that rely on the routes — including inter‑tribal travel corridors — will continue to receive maintenance.
County staff described the IGA as a new formal agreement (not a revision) that aligns maintenance work the county performs under other IGAs and clarifies responsibilities and access. The board approved the resolution by unanimous vote.
