Board approves community initiative grants, facility and program funding in unanimous consent votes

The Coconino County Board of Supervisors used its consent calendar on Tuesday to approve a slate of community initiative funding agreements and other contracts with local nonprofits and partners. The board approved each item by single motion, most unanimously, and several applicants addressed the supervisors in brief presentations before votes.

Highlights of approved agreements and awards included: - Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra — $6,000 in community initiative funds to support the free July 4 concert at Pepsi Amphitheater (funding split: $1,200 District 1; $2,000 District 2; $2,300 District 3; $500 District 4). Michelle Wachter, FSO executive director, told supervisors the symphony expects 1,500–2,000 attendees and that the performance provides a major access point for classical music. - Grand Canyon Youth — $5,000 to support one‑day introductory kayaking expeditions for fifth graders from four Title‑I Flagstaff schools (funding breakdown per agenda). Claire Magnuson, Grand Canyon Youth development director, described pre‑trip outreach, equipment loans and youth‑focused river curriculum. - Coconino Center for the Arts / Creative Flagstaff — $27,500 for portable modular seating to enhance programming; Julie Komnick described planned exhibitions and expanded programming. - Northland Family Health Center / NorthStar task force — $10,000 to support law enforcement, prosecutors and service providers’ training at the Crimes Against Children conference; a written statement from the center described multiagency NorthStar task force progress on anti‑trafficking work. - Nuestros Raices — $2,800 to pay performers for the Southern Summertime Tariada; Rebecca Ceballos described the community’s cultural festival and plans to bring an 8‑member mariachi group from Phoenix. - Burton Family Foundation — acceptance of a $5,000 grant for senior nutrition in Williams and corresponding budget adjustment for FY26. - NACOG Area Agency on Aging contract — acceptance of an FY26 contract for senior meal services totaling $182,196 with county cost share.

Supervisors also approved an intergovernmental agreement extension with the City of Flagstaff to administer city‑county library district funds (07/01/2025–06/30/2027), plus appointments to the Coconino County Workforce Development Board and other routine items. Several applicants thanked the board and described how funds would be used.
