Trustees volunteered for categories including school administrator of the year, school district employee making a difference, district-level administrator of the year, NASB director of the year, veteran and new trustee awards, friend of K‑12 education, innovative educator, media partner, governance team, board support person and superintendent of the year. Trustee Dr. Nicollet volunteered for NASB director of the year and several other trustees volunteered for categories they would work on with communications staff.
Chief Legal Counsel Neil Lombardo advised trustees to avoid interacting in ways that would create an inadvertent subcommittee under Nevada’s open meeting law; he recommended that trustees who plan to serve on the NASB selection committee recuse themselves from nominating individuals who would appear before the NASB committee on which they serve.
The board approved a blanket motion to confirm the assignments as discussed; the motion carried 7–0. No nominations were finalized in open session; trustees will work individually with communications to prepare nomination submissions.
