County staff reports flooding, Wellsville boil advisory and state water-rescue teams prepositioned

County staff gave a flooding update during the Franklin County Commission meeting on June 4 and said crews were responding to storm damage and localized low water pressure that triggered a precautionary boil-water advisory for Wellsville.
"When their pressure goes below 18 PSI, they go in an automatic, boil advisory," the county staff member said. "So you just gotta boil your water for 10 minutes." The presenter said Wellsville had lost power to a water plant after a storm-damaged Evergy power pole and that generators had problems, but that the system had returned to service and tests from the state health authority were expected.
The county reported river and creek levels, saying Potawatomi Creek was at about 20–22 feet and expected to crest near 24 feet at about 1 a.m., and that a location recorded as "Meridizine" was at about 30 feet and expected to crest near 32 feet at about 1 a.m. Staff also described a log jam on the latter waterway and several temporary road closures. The county said Kansas Task Force 2 and Kansas Search Rescue Task Force 5 water-rescue units from Manhattan, Junction City and Salina had been prepositioned and were available if county officials requested them.
Staff said last-night water rescues were limited and that local departments and mutual-aid partners had been coordinating EMS coverage where roads were cut off. Officials urged residents to avoid driving through flooded roads and said crews would monitor crests and road conditions as waters recede.
