School leaders told the board they have requests to reinstate a competitive drill team at Pineview High School and to start boys and girls soccer at Enterprise High School.
Staff described the Pineview request as a revival of the school’s former drill program; the principal and teacher leaders would reallocate existing dance/drill advisor stipends and would not request extra district money for ongoing stipend costs, staff said. Board members discussed choreography, competition costs and equity questions and staff noted the primary expense for drill teams is costumes/choreography, not necessarily ongoing equipment.
Enterprise’s principal requested boys and girls soccer, describing strong community interest and a strategy to serve Hispanic students who have shown interest. Staff said start-up costs for soccer will include stipends, uniforms and some equipment; a preliminary estimate in the discussion put a possible startup figure in the low tens of thousands of dollars and staff said they would bring back more detailed budget estimates. The board discussed travel distances for the region and facilities.
Board members asked staff to provide startup budgets for both programs and to identify ongoing stipend or equipment needs; staff said they will return with figures and recommended that schools use existing stipend lines where feasible. No final vote was required; staff will return with cost estimates for board action.
