At the Jan. 7 meeting the Ramsey County Commission approved several payments and procurement steps related to roadwork and maintenance.
The commission approved payment of $5,389.46 to KLJ for design work on the South Minnewakanton (South Minnewatch) project and $8,489.72 to KLJ for finalization work on the Ramsey County 3 thin lift overlay. Commissioners also approved payment of $50,679.51 as Progressive Estimate No. 4 (final) to Mayo Construction for work on Ramsey County 3. The commission voted to authorize the chair to sign the final review and acceptance form for that paving project, which establishes a one-year warranty period for the completed work.
Public-works staff reported that John Deere offered a one-year rental for a new tractor at the same rate as last year — $6,000 for up to 250 hours — while competing vendors quoted substantially higher rates (an example given: $90 per hour from Butler) or much higher costs for purchase/long-term lease. Commissioners approved proceeding with the John Deere rental and ordering the tractor so it will arrive in time for the mowing season.
Commissioners also received a heads-up from public-works staff about a potential chip-seal project on a county-line road (Grams Island Road) coordinated with Benson County. Benson County's estimate would make Ramsey County's share about $109,000; no formal paperwork or request for payment had arrived at the time of the meeting and staff said they would wait for an official request before taking further action.
The payments and procurement steps were advanced by motions, seconded and approved by voice and roll call during the meeting.
