Barnes, who said she is a biomedical research scientist at Emory University, told the committee the recognition would increase public awareness of biomedical research’s role in advancing treatments and cures and spotlight the work of laboratory technicians, veterinarians and scientists. Representative Bennett and other members expressed support, calling the resolution timely and appropriate given the state’s research institutions.
After brief discussion the committee took a voice vote; a member moved and seconded the resolution, the chair called for those in favor and the transcript records affirmative voices. The chair announced the resolution passed.
The resolution is a ceremonial recognition for awareness and does not create a program or new funding stream.
