Parent and ally group tells board educators report hostile work environments at some schools

Mario Blanchard, speaking on behalf of PCAE, told the board during the public-expression portion of the Dec. 2 meeting that some educators have reported working in “less than ideal” or “hostile” environments and that supervisors’ behavior can negatively affect staff morale and student learning.
Blanchard asked the board what it will do when concerns about building-level leadership are raised and said staff deserve to work under conditions that allow them to teach effectively. He said, “Make no mistake, the educators in those buildings are feeling stressed out and overwhelmed and feel that no 1 has their back,” and urged the board to address the concerns quickly so educators can perform their roles well.
The board thanked Blanchard for raising the concerns. The chair noted the item was public comment and that the board would listen; the rules for public expression were explained earlier in the meeting.
