County staff described three erosion-control items; staff said projects 1 and 3 could be completed before Dec. 31 while project 2, which needs asphalt work, could not because asphalt plants are closing for the season. Project 1 addresses bank erosion adjacent to a driveway and was quoted at $12,800; project 3 involves installing a square downspout and subgrade conveyance tied into an existing catch basin and was quoted at $9,200.
Staff reported only one contractor provided a formal quote after initial interest from others. The county requested authority to proceed with the two bids (projects 1 and 3) now, totaling $22,000, and asked commissioners to waive the normal bidding process in order to complete the work this construction season.
Commissioners moved and seconded the measure; the motion carried with aye votes from the commissioners present. Staff said contingency funds are available and that the county will proceed after finalizing the contract with the quoted contractor.
